Broke-Ass Author: Ryan Creery

Hello gals & gents. I’m back to recant a bit of my experiences in the Twin Cities with my partner, Kristofer. He’s spent a lot of time there, being a Minnesota native himself, but it was my first time. Below are just a few of the places we hit.

Wise Acre Eatery is a great place for lunch — they’re known for their INSANELY amazing bacon.

The beautiful McNeely Conservatory at the Como Zoo & Park in St. Paul. You guys, there’s a sloth. Enough said.

The set of King Lear at the Guthrie. Such a cool, modern theater!

Traveler Tip: The Guthrie is linked into a bunch of the hotels in the area, so you can get discounted rates if you book in advance.

On our way to lunch, we stopped at Minnehaha Falls and enjoyed this crazy waterfall. It’s surrounded by a really beautiful park, with a scenic trail for runners and a great spot for picnics. (If you’re digging my yellow jacket, you can pick up a similar one from Old Navy here.)

Other places I recommend?

Shopping: Calhoun Square
Italian Food: Bar La Grassa
Museum: Walker Art Center (An AMAZING gift shop)
Coffee: Dogwood Coffee Co.
Brunch: French Meadow Bakery & Cafe
When You’re Starving: Brasa Premium Rotisserie

Enough of that, let’s get to the packing.

If you’re going in the winter, expect to see a lot of snow and get chilly gusts. Though cold, it’s a beautiful time of year in Minneapolis and St. Paul and there’s still oodles and oodles to do. In the warmer months, you’ll still want to make sure you pack a sweater and a light jacket just in case a night chill blows in. Also, it’s wise to bring a raincoat, as the weather has a tendency to be pretty wet year round.

For the Cold

Levi’s Trucker Jacket, $200 from Men’s Wearhouse

Lems Boulder Boot, $115 from Huckberry

Wallace & Barnes Workshirt, $88 from J. Crew

For Warmer Times

8″ Club Shorts, $19.99 from Target

K-Way Anorak, $49.98 from Huckberry

Saucony Originals, $26–$65 from Amazon

Also, I love recommendations, so let me know if you have haunts you like to frequent.

Harwick Duffel Bag, $98 from J. Crew Let's talk about baggage (no, not THAT kind of baggage). Planning a honeymoon in Hawaii? A getaway wedding in New Hampshire? No matter what the occasion is, when it comes to prepping for a trip, quality luggage should always be the first thing you consider. Vintage Sign available from Etsy seller TamarasTreasureTrove Shaving. It can be kind of a pain in the ass, but we have to do it. Even if you have a beard, there’s some maintenance that needs to be done. For your wedding day, I’d 100% recommend you have a professional barber clean you up, but not all of us have that kind of time or cash.…

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m NOT a fan of the cold weather. Like, at all. Give me all the 70-degree temperatures and sunny days — AKA: margarita weather. That’s why, after Thanksgiving, my galpals and partner decided to escape the cold Texas rain and head to warmer weather. Destination: Tulum. You guys, BEST IDEA EVER. While our friends and family were teeth-chattering through…
