We’ve got a special request this week. It’s super special actually because this Bay Area bride hasn’t fallen head over heels for a dress she can’t afford yet – she just needs help.
Looking for an elopement dress idea for San Francisco City Hall June 2013. I wear size 14 in bridal gowns, I’m pear shaped, and I want something long, romantic, and unique. I go back and forth between ‘”traditional elopement” dress or something short, from white to cream or champagne…
Our girl wants options! And, her plans changed since she first asked for our help. They’re still planning for something small and intimate but possibly at a chapel now. Courtney wants to spend no more than $700 and wants a soft, flowing romantic look but doesn’t like all over lace. She likes a little something extra but not full-blown bling. Girl, do we have serious options for you – long, short, strapless, one-shoulder, color and white.
One Shoulder Mesh Gown with Beaded Waist ($179 at David’s Bridal)
Swiss Dot Tulle Empire Waist Soft Wedding Gown ($349 at David’s Bridal)
Margarete in Sand ($478.99 at Ruche)
It’s kind of fun to not have boundaries when looking through dresses. There’s a definite variety available here. Not all have a little extra something but, being below your budget, you could easily be made special with a beautiful belt. Having your size was really helpful – these are all available in size 14.
Having such an open mind may make it difficult to really decide. Be sure to check the return policy if you’re unsure. Any other BABs have some suggestions for courthouse/city hall/elopement wedding dresses for Courtney to consider?
Adri has designer dreams but of course, not the designer budget. She actually loved a whole collection of dresses from Israeli designer Inbal Dror.
I found these Inbal Dror dresses and I’m in love with them. Could you please help me find some similar ones at a $2,000-$2,500 price range?
After an email follow up, Adri sent me the two dresses that really struck her fancy. Particularly she was attracted to the lingerie-like look at the top, the interesting sweetheart neckline and the playful use of lace. Such details, she said, seemed to draw her eye to the model’s face. She’s also expressed an interest in fit n’ flare style dresses. This request was fun and really specific – I definitely banked a couple extra CAI/GOI hours this week!

There’s also the option of going with multiple pieces. Ann Taylor has a Chantilly lace bustier for $250 with a couple of skirt options that will keep the whole ensemble to $600 before taxes. Adri was kind enough to send me a photo of her in the current front runner, and it was beautiful. Are there BABs out there with other options for her to consider?
“Budget” has always been a word I kind of hate. It really kills the joy of shopping for, well, anything. But of course, it’s a very important factor when it comes to BAB weddings.
I fell in love with the Wtoo Olivia gown in oatmeal. I went to try it on and absolutely love it. I have been trying to find a used one to buy, but they are still out of budget. Do you have any ideas of similar looks I could try? I can’t seem to find anything like it. Thanks!!!
After chatting with our BAB, it turns out her magic number is $800. There’s always an opportunity to have fun on a budget. This is no different. As always, the key is being open-minded when it comes to all the little details…

The color is the hardest thing to really match up. Not all these options hit that hue right on the head, but we play around with a palette that goes from white to peachy pink to a golden, movie star hue. Hopefully there is something in here that catches your eye!
