We’ve got lots of CAI/GOI requests in our queue these days thanks to you, our lovely readers! We’re pretty excited about that, but keep in mind, your requests may take a bit of time to get to as we add them to our calendar. Nevertheless, keep those requests coming! We are here to help.
Reader Jennifer is getting married at the end of summer and commented on this post with her request:
“Your “Get over it Posts” are amazing! I made the mistake of looking at Monique Lhuillier whom I love from Rent the Runway and fell for the L’Amour dress. I love the plunging V-neck line and body fitting form while still having the removable more traditional overlay for the ceremony that blends seamlessly when it is on (instead of an afterthought like other removable skirts). I thought I found a great alternative in Zuhair Murad’s Theodora with skirt until I found the price! Help I’m getting married at the end of the summer and need to pick something soon. Ideally my budget would be under 3500.”
Thanks for the love, Jennifer! You’ve got two beautiful gowns to inspire our search today. Both the “L’Amour” and the “Theodora” feature a curve-hugging embroidered lace gown with detachable overskirt. In my search, I focused on finding gowns with similar body-hugging silhouettes, lace, and a V-neckline. I will first show you gowns, and the second half of the post will be options for overskirts. When shopping for separate pieces, remember to coordinate your colors. And if you think the skirt looks too much like an afterthought, you could always make or purchase a belt to bring it all together. Let’s check out some beautiful look-alikes!
Monique Lhuillier “L’Amour,” Spring 2016, $6,000+
Zuhair Murad “Theodora,” Fall 2016, $8,000+
And now, for skirts …
This last option already comes with its own overskirt!
INES DI SANTO ‘Margeaux’ Lace Tulle & Organza Ballgown Overskirt with Detachable Train (In Stores Only) (Style: 5098682), $2,490 at Nordstrom
That’s all I’ve got for you today, Jennifer! What do you think? Have you found the perfect pairing of gown and skirt? Let us know in the comments.
Got a gown that you just can’t get off your mind? We’re happy to help you get over it! Just tell us in the comments below! Please remember to include the budget you’re working with so we can find you the best alternative for you. Please be aware, though, that because you guys love this column so much, we can often build up quite the queue and it may be a while before we can get to your dream dress. Rest assured, though, Team Broke-Ass is on the case!
