Your Spring Wedding Checklist
So, statistics say that a bunch of you are going to start getting hitched in March and April, a mere 4-5 months from now. And, with the Holidays inhibiting your time to do anything wedding-productive for the next six weeks, you’re probably a little worried getting all the left over check boxes checked off.
The one big huge thing you have coming up twixt Black Friday and New Years is sending out your invites. YIf you haven’t already, put your guest list in a spreadsheet now. Add a column for emails and phone numbers, because you’re going to need them when you have to track no-replies down, and send out info about things like shuttles and wedding rehearsal times. Get all that now, so you don’t have to scramble later.
And while you’re in invite prep mode, make sure you have at least a day – as in, 8 hours in one or two blocks of time - to get them assembled and sent out. Invites are more time-consuming than you think. Seriously. If you’re DIY’ing them, get extra ink for your printer and extra paper supplies. Oh, and stamps. Avoid getting them at the last minute, especially since Christmas is coming up and everyone and their mother is mailing out. You don’t know what’s available at your post office, so stop by, check, and grab the ones you want. Actually, though, the easiest solution is to order them online. Keep in mind that the mailing rates are changing on January 22nd, too, so take a look at the Forever stamps if that’s going to cut it close for you. Get twice as many if you have RSVP cards.
And before you get knee-deep into the holiday spirit, do another calendar check of everything that’s outstanding. Is there another deposit due on your venue? With your caterer? Have you shot your engagement pictures, yet? What’s going on with your dress? Just make sure you have all that stored somewhere, like your phone, with alarms. That’s how this wedding planner does it.
So, what’s worrying you about your spring wedding right now? I’m going to be around all weekend, so let me know in the comments below.
See you at the end of the aisle,

A great reminder to as a calligrapher to be ready for Save-the-Dates and Invitations! Thanks
I am getting married in April and my biggest worry at the moment is getting my wedding party to purchase/ rent the appropriate attire. My bridesmaids are not all (or even mostly) local, so a day trip to a boutique won't work. I have given them the designer, color and length I'd like for the dresses and would like them to choose the particular style they each want. How long before I start really bugging them about getting on that? And the guy's tuxedos- how long before my fiance and I need to seriously hound them? Any suggestions of doing it nicely? I hate bugging people. With people spread out over the country, I'm getting a tad nervous about those details. And them purchasing plane tickets, too!
Thanks for reminding ME that I have to get my Christmas cards to a calligrapher this year!
One stop shopping is usually the best way – is there a website or store where they can all go to get the dress? Find out what the deadline is for them to order it so they get them at least two weeks before your wedding and then email them to let them know. Ask them to email you when they've ordered. And then just remind them again a week before the deadline. Same goes with the boys. And then let it go. At this point, they're grown and they're responsible for getting this done. And you're probably thinking, "Ahh, but what if they don't do it??" Then I guess they've got some 'xplaining to do. Treat them like they're grown, because they are, you know?
The good thing about getting married in spring would probably be that "wedding budget" and "Christmas gift budget" would not be jostling for the same spot on your bank account….maybe. Anyone having issues with that this winter?
My wedding's only in January, and we have some extra invites we still need to get out there, music not settled for ceremony OR reception, ceremony not written, rehearsal dinner location not chosen, and diy still going full blast. The music is the only thing i'm really nervous about though, everything else is either getting settled this week or progressing well.
Also Danielle, i totally agree with liz that just being open with your bridal party about deadlines is the way to go, once they learn that it's not "2 day free shipping" like normal shopping that will make a difference. if you have friends you are aware will not check themselves and tend to do things a little too late, tell them the deadline's a week or two earlier than it is (not a total lie, it's their personal deadline! just as i have friends who are always invited over half an hour to an hour earlier than i want them to show up because they are reliably very late).
Emma and Lizcharm, thank you both for your advice. You're right- they are grown, and I need to keep reminding myself that my fiance and I chose them to be in the wedding party because they are loyal and trustworthy individuals who love us as much as we love them.
Emma, best of luck with the music! I'm sure everything will turn out well.
I'd be more than thrilled to address your Christmas cards, if you don't already have one in mind.

I'm getting married at the end of April, and I am mostly concerned about well, EVERYTHING right now! Groomzilla has put all wedding-convo on lock-down until January 1st. I have no idea how this is helping anything, except his stress level, I am sure. However, it's just adding to mine. So, long-story short: Since I can't talk to him about anything until January 1 – I'm thinking of using Pinterest – as a way to "present my case" and meld our two visions. At this point, it's go-time….OH WAIT, it's a little over a week until go-time!
THANKS FOR THE REMINDER! LOL! Promise I'm not too stressed out – really, all good here, but I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to vent!
The week is going to go by really, really quick. I say enjoy the time off. And don't worry, you'll get everything done!
