{Can’t Afford It/Get Over It} The Textured Look

I love textured gowns.  They are beautiful from afar, but when seen up close, their details are mesmerizing.  Icing on the (wedding) cake, if you ask me.

This week’s request comes from bride Connie. The gown of her dreams is the The Mackay by Watters. She wrote: “I am currently obsessed with this gown from Watters’ Spring 2011. What I love about it is all the stitching and details.”

Here are a round of beautiful textured stunners sure to help Connie get over her $4000 Watters gown desire…

Can’t Afford It:

Get Over It:

1. Oleg Cassini for David’s Bridal. Retails for under $1000.

2. Alfred Sung Bridals. Retails for about $1000.

3. Mon Cheri Bridals. Retails for about $1000.

4. Christina Wu. Retails for about $1000.

5. Kathy Ireland. Retails for about $1000.

6. White by Vera Wang. Retails for about $1000.

7. La Sposa. Retails for about $1000

8. Galina Signature. Retails for about $1000.

In the spirit of the “Can’t Afford It/Get Over It” love, Team Broke-Ass wanted to share with you all, a gown for sale from a bride we love… she is Miss Handbag from Weddingbee, and she is selling her custom Christina Wu gown. Her are the deets straight from the Miss herself:

Size 8, street size 6. Sweetheart, strapless with a tight waist. Brand new still with tags, never worn and never altered. I paid 1K for it, asking $800.

Isn’t she beautiful in that gown? This look could be yours for the get over it price of $800. That’s a deal, ladies.

Miss any CAI/GOI magic? Catch up here:

I like the Oleg Kassini and Kathy Ireland dresses BETTER than the Mackay by Waters dress!

I love reading the Can't Afford it/Get Over it posts! It always helps to see the more affordable options within the world of couture! I'm also commenting here to enter into the MayRey Hairpiece contest! I am not a veil type girl, so this contest is perfect for me! Love your blog!!

I found this company on another bridal blog, and their prices are ridiculous, and from what I've heard, the quality is excellent!

I got a $1000 dress from David’s bridal, on clearance, for $100. I am a bridal size 4, so I think it was hard to move, but it’s textured and lovely and looks like a million bucks! Keep looking ladies- you can get a get over it dress that looks like these for a benjamin or two! good luck!

I am in love with that Christina Wu gown posted… thanks for introducing me to such a fabulous designer. All I've been doing for the past hour is looking through her collection.

I was in love with the Mackay too, but a bridal consultant put me in the Renee (from Watter's less expensive line, Wtoo) and I got a different kind of structural texture that really suited me. It was also a better length train and less fussy dress – perfect for me! In fact, I was so under budget (Renee was just under $1000) that i'm now considering getting a short fun dress (hello Quail Peony cake cutter!) for later in the night! Anybody else have textured short dresses to share?

I was in love with a really expensive Watters dress too ($2000)! Word of advice girls… if you can’t afford it, don’t try it on! My mistake! With a budget of $500 for a wedding dress, I didn’t think I would ever find anything. But I ended up finding a dress i LOVED on sale at Alfred Angelo and bought my dress and a beautiful vintage indie pearl necklace for $525! If you take the time you can find a dress you love to fit ANY budget, I am sure!

Clearly, there are many, many beautiful options at lower prices- and we must be reminded that we can find these! It just takes extra hunting :) My dress was inexpensive, I can't justify spending oodles of money on a dress I am wearing for a day…now to find the jewelry that won't break the bank, suggestions?

These textured gowns are gorgeous. I love how they are taking traditional gowns for a spin with texture. It can be as soft and delicate and you want, but it can be edgy and make a statement too. It is great for a variety of brides. Love it!

i love the textured gowns! i too fell in love with a textured gown that was WAY over my budget. i ended up going to cringe Davids Bridal and i fell in love with an Oleg Cassini dress. it looked so close to the textured gown and its just beautiful! Davids Bridal has such a stigma but really there dresses are gorg! and now Vera Wang has her collection there and let me tell you i wish i could have waited to snag one of those beauties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Jennifer S

    the Galina dress is stunning

  17. Sabina

Unfortunately the fact that we can't afford it doesn't help us stop thinking about it

  18. Fairy CogMother

It's true, but think of it this way–if you were going to spend several thousand dollars on a dress you wear for one day, you'd never be able to stop thinking about it then, either… you would remember it every time you looked at your credit card statement! :)
