{Can’t Afford It/Get Over It} The Sash Bride

The bridal sash has been kicking ass in popularity in the wedding world for quite some time now. Sashes showcase the perfect pop of color to accent your neutral or all-white gown. Some brides even like to match their bridal sash color with their actual wedding colors or their bridesmaid’s dress colors. So needless to say, a sash can really bring some much needed sass to your wedding day look.

Reader Rachel wrote in looking for a Get Over It version of Priscilla of Boston‘s bell-shaped ball gown, lavender sash stunner:

I was driving by a wedding store on the way home from work, and had to PULL THE CAR OVER when I saw this beauty in the window. I put the hazards on, jumped out, ran into the store, and cried, “That dress! Who is that dress!?” What I love about it is the tight heart-shaped bodice, the PURPLE belt, and the bell-shaped bottom (not too puffy cheesy, but classy).

So this is what we are going to do for Rachel.  First, I will show her 20 bell-shaped ball gowns under $1000. Then after that, I will list a few sashes she can buy separately to accompany the gown.

Is it wrong that I love that Alfred Angelo dress even though it's the Snow White one from their "fairytale wedding" collection? I distinctly remember rolling my eyes when I heard about that (I mean, a mermaid dress for Ariel? Come on!), and now I kind of can't wait to try on the Snow White when I go there for my appointment next week. It's too prettyyyyyy!

I'm all about the sash! Great dress picks, doesn't always have to be expensive and you can buy a sash from any craft store

I have my own Priscilla of Boston get over it, the Lindsay dress. I'm completely in love with the taffeta, pockets, and twisted straps.

  4. Tanya

I adore the first Alfred Angelo dress and the Mia Solano dress. Great picks!

Thank you thank you for posting my question. I was so excited to see it here.

Let me tell you how it all worked out:

I wound up buying my dress at RK Bridal. It is a Mikaela dress. I found it on the 60% off rack, marked down to $400. Once I tried on the dresses there, I realized that a strapless dress with a straight collar-line, instead of heart-shaped, actually looked better on me. The dress comes with a pink sash, so I have been looking for purple to replace it. I was so excited that you posted ideas for that too, thank you!

I love the dress that I got. I love the sash and the full skirt. And I love that it was in my price range.
And yes, it kinda sorta looks like the Pricilla one I originally fell for. It really helped me focus in on what I wanted.
