Guest Blogger: Kristy from Momental Designs

momental_designs1337 My name is Kristy and I own Momental Designs. I am an artist; an invitation artist in fact. I remember drawing by flashlight way past my bedtime as a young child – I never stopped. For me creating art is not an act but a lifestyle. I am passionate about creating moments on paper, my home, loving my hubby and believe you can never have too many fantastic handbags.

Once all of the response cards faithfully make their way through the mail and the number of chicken, beef, and fish meals are calculated, one dreaded task remains – seating assignments. Ugh! It is at this point where brides and grooms-to-be gather with their families to start plotting and crossing their fingers that each combination of guests will be end up being a perfect blend of personalities. Unfortunately, not all table combinations result in guests being able to engage in interesting conversations right off the bat. Sometimes wedding guests need a little help in breaking the ice with a table full of 8 perfect strangers.

We were recently inspired by a client who wanted to arm her guests with a tool to ensure that by the time cake and coffee were served; her guests would have enjoyed their time getting to know their fellow table-mates. To accomplish this tricky challenge, one of her favorite childhood toy came to mind. You might remember as child taking a simple piece of paper, with a few quick folds and some creativity, creating an object that would tell the fortune of any curious playground pal. Yes, our client wanted to create fortune tellers to be stationed at each table for her guests to use as a device to encourage interesting conversation. Such a novel idea, as many guests often have a hard time breaking the ice beyond the typical questions like where are you from or what do you do for a living. We thought her idea was marvelous, so we just had to share. Finally, someone has had the courage to try to remedy those awkward moments of silence at the wedding dinner table.

When creating your fortune teller, you can combine symbols, colors, numbers, and questions to coordinate and compliment your weddings style. Whether you have planned casual garden nuptials or an elegant vow exchange, fortune tellers can fit into any tablescape. Get creative with these by using your wedding date or perhaps flowers used in the bride’s bouquet. Pick up some heavy weight paper and gather your bridesmaids to have a Girl’s Night In and brush up on your origami skills. Dress them up by adding some bling with rhinestones, or keep them casual with recycled papers. If you are just not into creating these table toys on your own, they can be picked up a very reasonable prices or inquire with your stationery designer. After all, there is no need to spend a fortune!
