Mommie Countdown: T-minus 6 days!
August 22nd, 2008 by The Broke-Ass Bride
I count myself very lucky to have incredible parents. My mom is my best friend, and I can talk to my dad about anything.
This was not always the case, and was made worse by my authority-shunning angst-ridden teen years, part of which involved a trip to Bad Kid School for me. But I grew up, and came out of it with a deeper appreciation for both of my parents. They’re truly amazing people.

Us at my cousin’s wedding last summer.
My mom and I got really close during senior year of high school, and its gotten stronger every year. Even after I moved thousands of miles away 2 years ago, we still talk almost every day. Since I’ve been engaged, the phone calls are even more frequent. I love sharing all my ideas and inspirations with her, and she’s incredibly supportive and excited about the wedding.
My dad is one of the smartest and most dedicated people I know. He’s not really into weddings (his advice? elope.) but he’s been so awesome and supportive of our plans, I’m thrilled. He gave the most touching speech at our engagement party, and has been super sweet about everything wedding-related. I think I’m converting him

Phone calls and email help bridge the gap between Chicago and LA, but we both really hoped at least mom would have a chance to visit LA once more before the wedding. After a few near disappointments, my awesome dad generously bought her a ticket to come over Labor Day! Hooray for mother/daughter wedding bonding time!
Here’s what we’ve got on the itinerary so far:
1. Lunch at the Ivy – a requirement of every visit. (Last time we went I got popped by the paparazzi – a thrill for my mom, even if it was a mistake.)
2. A trip to Little India to hunt for sari fabric to make table runners
3. A fact-finding mission to The Bungalow Club for table measurements and layout planning. Oh, and mojitos!
4. Meeting with the possible maker of my headpiece (more on that later)
5. House-hunting for family house rental the week of the wedding. Yes, I get to satisfy my inner voyeur by seeing Steve McQueen and Tom Jones‘ old residences!
6. Shoe hunting
7. Mother-of-Bride dress shopping
8. More mojitos… of course!
9. Loads of jumping up and down, squealing and hugging.
I can’t wait, y’all! I hope to have lots to report and pictures to share after next weekend.
Hello, I’m 30, and I want my mommie.

Awesome. Have a wonderful time with your mom!
Oh how fun, hope you and your mom have a blast and get lots done!
