Mom-tastic Anniversary Weekend!

This weekend marks our 2-year anniversary of living in Los Angeles. I can’t believe how fast it went. They say after 2 years, you finally get the hang of it, and LA becomes your true home. In honor of this event, I decided to list the 5 things I miss most about Chicago and the 5 things I love most about LA, in no particular order.

I miss:
1. the architecture
2. my family and friends
3. hot doug’s – best veggie dog in the history of the world.
4. public transit
5. thunderstorms

I love:
1. our neighborhood (silverlake, represent!), and the view from our living room.

2. nature – to hike near our house, and get to see from the ocean to snow-capped mountains is uber-dreamy.
3. possibility – the sky’s the limit here. Anything can happen.
4. produce – the farmer’s markets are amazing, and we grow lemons, avocados, pomegranates and figs all in our yard. yum!
5. diversity – a melting pot of cultures and cuisines at every turn.
….And the weather ain’t bad either

Los Angeles really is what you make of it. We have an apartment we love, a family of friends we can count on, and sunshine every day. Yes, there are more challenges here… but it makes life all the richer. Think I’ll stay awhile….

Best of all, my mom is coming for the weekend! T-minus 2 hours until she lands. I am so thrilled to have her here – its been a trying couple of months and I sure could use some motherly love to take the edge off. I hope I can hold it together at least a little. There’s a large part of me that wants to crumble at her feet and sob. But there’s another part that wants to jump up and down and squeal with delight. Maybe I can split the difference

So, I’m off for the weekend. Gonna get things done (cue getting-things-done montage music) and check some big to-do’s off my list. And celebrate another year of progress in LA. Pass the mojitos please!
