Broke-Ass Bargains: Website Wonderment

I realized that the other day I wrote about bargains, and reusing supplies from other weddings/events, but didn’t mention the sites I scour regularly for great deals… so, in no particular order, here are some of my faves!

I found my mason jar maven, and DOC on IndieBride.com in Kvetch (their boards section). They have threads for most major cities and states.

I will always sing the gospel of Craigslist. I’ve found our living room furniture, several jobs, apartments, and lots of other random things via this brilliant site. It takes a while to wade through but sometimes the prizes are well worthwhile. Always check the free section, too. Once I saw someone giving away a working hot tub!

I’ve gotten some great leads, and found resources for free engagement photos and photo slideshows via Weddingbee Classifieds their new local boards feature.

Etsy.com is an amazing site for artsy crafty types to showcase their skills and sell their wares. Lots of artists specialize in recycled and eco-friendly designs.

The Knot has local boards and knottie bios which often feature items for sale, post wedding.

Ebay, my love, where the lanterns are sold in bulk and the saris are lovely. Always a bargain to be had.

There’s a new kid in town, which seems to be a decent venue for bridal trading: Bride to Bride Boutique – a site especially made for reselling wedding goods, after the fact.

If you’re looking for pre-owned dresses, try Encore Bridal, or Bell’ancora, or Pre-Owned Wedding Dresses - its an eco-friendly way to afford a designer dud. Or, check to see what great vintage stores in your area might specialize in designer stuff. In LA, we have Room 222, Vintage Grace, the Frock, just to name a few…

And speaking of local finds, there’s always neighborhood garage/yard sales, and larger swap meets/flea markets, such as the Rose Bowl! I haven’t been yet, but I plan on going very soon.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some really quality sites, and as I remember, I will update you. If you have any other suggestions, please send them my way! (my broke-ass could use ‘em!)

Happy Hunting!
